Hello,
Aujourd’hui, nous avons étudié les différences d’écriture et de mots entre UK et US.
Ensuite, nous avons commencé à mémoriser du vocabulaire de la nourriture.
American menu – Part 2
Teacher’s questions:
– What is the document?
– Why is it an American restaurant? (3 reasons)
– What is Route 66?
– What is « free refill »?
-What is the difference between the spelling and the words in the US and in the UK?
Contrary to the US, in the UK, there is a « u » in « favourite ».
Unlike the US, in the UK, they say « doughnut », the spelling is more difficult !
In the US, they say « fries » while in the UK, they say « chips ».
HW for Wednesday 9th:
– connaître la leçon et être capable de répondre aux questions du teacher.
Jack the Ripper started to kill prostitutes in Whitechapel in the Autumn of 1888.
This series of murders shocked the population of London and the world since London was the largest capital city at that time.
Contrary to the rest of London, the neighbourhood of Whitechapel was grim, crime-ridden, very poor and crammed with people. Many people died because of diseases too. There were no toilets or bins in the street. It was very dirty.
Because it was so difficult to live, many women turned to prostitution to survive, to pay for food and for a bed in horrible lodging houses.
There were about 1.200 (one thousand two hundred) prostitutes in Whitechapel, easy targets for Jack the Ripper.
