Segregation in the USA

All across the USA, segregation was the law!

In the south, more places were segregated.

In the buses, white people had to sit at the front whereas black people had to sit at the back.

Black people couldn’t drink in the same water fountains.

They couldn’t swim in the same swimming-pools and beaches.

They couldn’t take a shower in the same bathrooms.

They had to live in separate neighbourhoods.

They had to play checkers separately in the parks.

Black people and white people couldn’t study in the same schools.

 Hello,

Today, you watched an extract of the movie : the argument.

The argument

The scene takes place in a kitchen at home.

There are three characters: his father, his grandma and Billy.

They‘re talking about Billy’s new passion.

It’s an argument because the father shouts and says swearwords.

The father thinks ballet is for girls and boys can do football, boxing or wrestling. He looks disgusted.

People think ballet dancers are skinny, feminine and gay because of the dancing outfit and the tights.

Billy says some ballet dancers are as fit as athletes.

Charlotte thinks everybody can do the sports they like.

Hello,

Aujourd’hui, vous avez découvert une image du film Cool Runnings.

The description of the picture

The document is a screenshot from « Cool Runnings! »

In the picture, there are two characters in the middle.

They are in Jamaica because:

– one man has a T-shirt and a hat like Bob Marley,

– it’s hot and sunny,

– there is a beach in the background.

The man on the right is wearing overalls with the Jamaican flag.

He is reading a book.

They look curious and dubious.
