Differences between the movie and the text
Hello,
Aujourd’hui, nous avons terminé de résumer l’histoire du Once-Ler et écrit une leçon sur ce nouveau temps : le prétérit !
The Once-Ler meets the Lorax
(suite leçon précédente)
Next, he chopped a tree.
And he took the soft tuft and he knitted a Thneed.
Then, he saw the Lorax in a tree stump.
He spoke with a bossy voice.
He said « I’m the Lorax, I speak for the trees! »
He was very upset and he shouted.
Le prétérit
Le prétérit (le passé) sert à raconter une histoire qui est passée et terminée.
Il y a 2 catégories de verbes :
– les verbes irréguliers : il faut les apprendre par coeur.
Ex: see > saw, say > said…
– les verbes réguliers : ils se terminent par -ED. Attention à la prononciation !
A la forme négative: sujet + DIDN’T + BV (verbe à l’infinitif)
Ex: I didn’t see.
HW for Tuesday 11th: leçon 1 et 2 sur l’histoire du Once-Ler par coeur + relire leçon sur le prétérit.

Differences between the movie and the text
In the movie, Ted rings at the door whereas he knocks at the door in the text.
In the text, the Once-Ler has yellow eyes while in the movie he has blue eyes.
Unlike in the text, the Once-Ler has green gloves.
Contrary to the text, in the movie Ted doesn’t put the price of the story in the pail. He just shows it.

The contrast between the granny and the mother
1- Contrary to the mother, the grand-mother has little glasses.
2- The grand-mother is old whereas the mother is young.
3- The grand-mother has a pink dress while the mother has a purple dress.
4- Unlike the grand-mother, the mother is skinny.

How to make contrast
Question of the teacher:
Can you compare…. (electronic trees and real trees) ?
1- Electronic trees are messy and dirty while real trees are tidy and clean.
2- Real trees can change colours just in Autumn whereas electronic trees can change colours with a remote.
3- Contrary to electronic trees, real trees have a lot of leaves.
