The debate about playing football in an Indian family

An Indian girl wants to play football but her family refuses.

They want her to practise religion and Indian traditions:

– They want her to cook. For example, she must cook chapati (Indian bread).

– They want her to get married.

– They want her to stop playing football with boys.

– They don’t want her skin to be darker.

– They don’t want people to talk about the family, to gossip. They don’t want shame on the family.

The Debate

Father: I think dancing is more for girls.

Billy: I don’t agree. Dancing is for girls and boys. Many boys like dancing.

Father: Bullshit! Boxing is more popular! And it’s more technical!

Billy: Now come on! It is as technical as dancing! For boxing, you only use your fists but for dancing you must use your body!

The argument

First the father is disgusted because Billy wants to do ballet.

Then he is very angry because he thinks ballet is just for girls not for boys. He has a lot of stereotypes.

After that he is more and more irritated. Consequently he says swearwords.
